With the borders closed in early 2016, estimated 60'000 humans are stranded in Greece and will have to wait for asylum, family reunification or relocation decisions. SAO women for displaced women puts its efforts into assisting and empowering women with their special needs and taking their vulnerability in account.
We support and empower women refugees on Lesvos and in Athens by supplying core necessities and take care of the most vulnerable among them. On Lesvos, we run the Bashira Centre, a day centre for women.
In the past, we have supported search-and-rescue efforts on Lesvos and the Attika warehouse. We also carried out the first assessment of mainland camps in spring 2016, mapping and describing conditions in www.bit.ly/GreekCampReport.
