Would you like to gain skills and experience working with refugees? Do you want to use your time to have a huge impact on families with new-born babies?

CRIBS International supports pregnant women and women with new-borns up to 12 months, by providing housing, essentials, support with breastfeeding, and help in accessing necessary medical care. We currently support 15 families who are housed in 9 flats across Athens. We need volunteers to support our coordinator on the ground.

Language skills in French, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, and Greek are all extremely helpful, but not essential.

Based: Athens, Greece

Preferred minimum time commitment: 4 weeks

Social support

  • Making appointments at hospitals / dentist / doctors
  • Accompanying individuals to appointments when needed for translation purposes, or extra support
  • Encouraging families to attend language classes and other social activities to develop independence and encourage integration
  • Working on action plans with families to discuss moving on and encourage independence
  • Offering support and advice with breastfeeding for new mums
  • Meeting potential new families and completing CRIBS application form
  • Supporting new families to move in

Practical support

  • Ensuring families have the essentials they need
  • Sourcing items needed by families
  • Supporting with opening the Free Shop for families to attend
  • Liaising with other NGOs to enable other families to access the Free Shop

You may be involved in both social support and practical support elements depending on your skills. We will look to utilise your skills as much as possible while also meeting the needs of the organisation.

  • Some experience in support work or working with vulnerable populations
  • Experience working in the social work or medical field, with pregnant/new mums and babies is desirable but not essential
  • Patience and understanding
  • Ability to complete tasks set on time
  • Able to use own initiative while keeping project coordinator updated

You will be managed by our Project Coordinator based in Athens, who will provide an induction and ongoing support.

We expect there to be 2 to 4 volunteers at one time supporting the charity in Athens. There is also a supportive group of volunteers across Athens working independently or with other NGOs.

To apply please send your CV and a cover letter summarising your experience, skills, availability and why you are interested in this role to cribsinternational@gmail.com
