Ithaca is an organization, founded in 2015, operating the first mobile laundry for homeless people in Europe. The operation is based in Athens and on a daily basis it is supported by our employees, who belong to social vulnerable groups.
Ithaca is supported by employees and volunteers. Volunteers are an integral part of the organization. They are mainly involved in the daily operation in the field and specifically, in the reception and service of the beneficiaries. They are also involved in several other fields that match their interests, such as photography, social media, graphic design, administrative support and web development. Since the beginning of our operation – when our services were offered by our volunteers exclusively – until now, the volunteers are offering their support to the society with an unflagging interest and commitment. Their contribution and assistance to our work are valuable for the organization’s proper functioning.
Through their involvement in Ithaca’s project and their support to the homeless people, our volunteers actively participate in the civil society. By offering their services to those in need, they get a sense of fulfillment and a personal satisfaction, while they become more aware of the social issues. Added to that, they develop their skills and they acquire valuable knowledge and experience.
