Do you have a background in education or experience in non-formal education projects? Are you available long term and want to use your skills to make a huge difference?

Lifting Hands International runs a community center for the residents of a camp in Serres, a small town about one hour away from Thessaloniki, offering educational, recreational activities and psycho-social support on five days a week.

We are looking for an education manager to start at the end of the year to lead our language programs. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your management skills and experience in an established non-governmental organization that provides services for Yazidi refugees and build your understanding of the refugee crisis. You will be able to greatly empower refugee families through providing access to education and language learning.

  • Based: Serres (Northern Greece)
  • Minimum commitment: 90 days, preferred: 6-12 months
  • Full-time
  • Teach a maximum of two hours English/German classes per day to Yazidi refugees
  • Run inductions and provide any necessary training to incoming volunteers
  • Ensure all other volunteer teachers have the resources and support they need
  • Timetable classes to adapt to the evolving needs of camp residents
  • Write concise weekly and monthly reports on the education program
  • Allocate budget for necessary resources
  • Coordinate with other NGOs and organizations across Greece that provide education resources, training and advice for volunteers


  • Background or previous experience in formal or non-formal education
  • Strong people managing skills
  • Able to work on own initiative and prioritize and delegate tasks
  • Very good knowledge of English
  • Previous working experience and Language and teaching skills in German are an asset
  • Language skills in Arabic, Kurmanji or Greek are all extremely helpful, but not essential.

LHI can offer free shared housing at our volunteer apartment in the centre of Serres and a small monthly living stipend (starting from 180 USD per month for a minimum of 3 months commitment).

Please note that as a small NGO we are not able to offer assistance in visa application nor in travel expenses.
