We are a group of volunteers who have been working in Thessaloniki, Greece since 2018 to provide essential needs services to the city’s homeless population, with a specific focus on migrants and refugees. We are open every day of the week, and our main goal is to provide every individual who walks through our doors with a nutritious, warming meal every day regardless of who they are, where they have come from, or what documents they have.
As many services in the city are off limits to undocumented people, we try to fill the gaps and provide food, information, and basic NFIs where possible. Each new arrival receives a welcome pack which includes a hygiene kit, basic clothing items and a sleeping bag. With the ongoing support and umbrella of Human Aid Now, we are able to make sure that everybody in Thessaloniki has somewhere to go when they are in need.
In the complex reality of Fortress Europe, confusing asylum systems, and state repression, we stand in solidarity with our beneficiaries, and act as advocates for them and their needs.
Wave - Thessaloniki has made its mission to help where no help is being given, to fill the service gaps in the region. We meet the most basic, primary and universal need of all: food. We support those who do not have the privilege to access nutritious meals, and collaborate with others to ensure that all such basic needs are fulfilled for this group.
We are currently one of the only services that accept undocumented people, as well as documented, and firmly believe in equality between these two groups. We serve indiscriminately, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, and/or ability, and encourage close interpersonal exchanges to foster solidarity and contribute to the fight against injustice.
