Community Center Manager 

Safe Place International is a Greek registered NGO dedicated to supporting the double-marginalized refugees. We currently have projects in Athens and on Lesvos working with LGBT refugees and Pregnant women/women with small children. Our goals are to provide emergency and basic needs like food and shelter along with a family atmosphere and support.  Please find us on facebook or look at our website, safeplaceinternational.org for more information.

Our Athens project, called Athens Housing Collective, is opening a big and beautiful community center mid-January. The center will cater to the LGBT refugee community we currently serve in our housing project, plus the greater LGBT refugee population and allies. We are in need of one or two volunteer managers to run the center, which we hope to have open 5/6 days per week serving a hot lunch and having ongoing activities like language courses, job trainings, psycho social support, and art/yoga classes. 

Our ideal candidate will be Athens-based and able to commit longer term to the management position full-time or part-time with support. 


  • Coordinate volunteer teachers for the classes offered 
  • Develop monthly schedule of daily acitivities and plan accordingly 
    • Language Classes, PSS, Movie nights, yoga class, Art therapy, Group Therapy, Free Hot lunches, Job training workshops, etc)
  • Oversee the daily hot meal preparation (we hope to offer a small stipend to one or two refugees to cook our daily meals)
  • Network with other organizations for support in mental health and other activities.
  • Open and/or close the center after use, ensuring the building is clean and properly locked.
  •  Liaison with our core Athens team including our Athens Housing Collective project manager, case-workers, and Director of Operations.
  • Constantly improve and encourage our organization to have a full schedule of events and 

Ideal Candidates will have:

  • Background working with grassroots NGO and refugees
  • A knowledge of the needs and struggles of LGBT refugees and a background in LGBT activism
  • Strong management and self-motivation skills
  • Punctuality and the ability to plan and implement systems
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • A passion for our work!

Fluency in English is necessary, any other languages are a plus.
