We are looking for a new logistics coordinator!

Wave is looking for a logistics coordinator to begin induction in June and take over in July. The role is based in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece and will require you to organise the logistics for the kitchen project of Wave. You will also be responsible for managing a team of up to 20 volunteers alongside two other coordinators. Wave distributes food every day, as well as NFIs to new arrivals and operates a laundry service. The project prioritises the undocumented population in the city as these people have much greater difficulty in accessing similar services elsewhere. We work a 10-15 minute bus ride from the city centre and currently do all distributions outside because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

You will work 5 days per week, the kitchen day is from 14:30-20:30 on weekdays, 14:00-20:30 on Saturdays and 12:30-20:30 on Sundays. As logistics coordinator you will be starting before the kitchen shift in order to organise, buy and collect various food and NFIs around the city. We encourage all the team, including coordinators to take two days off a week, however, you should be flexible to step in when needed and to organise those responsible for logistics on your days off.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the logistical operations of Wave Thessaloniki run smoothly
  • Coordinate distributions alongside the other coordinators, and occasionally alone on their days off
  • Managing and/or signposting of particular vulnerable cases or emergencies (e.g. unaccompanied minors)
  • Maintaining good relationships with partner organisations and forging new ones
  • Budgeting and keeping track of finance- uploading all receipts on a weekly basis
  • Managing the team
  • Giving inductions and trainings (split with two other coordinators)
  • Assessing volunteer needs and conducting interviews with potential candidates (split with other two coordinators)
  • Managing stock levels and updating spreadsheet on weekly basis
  • Ensure that safeguarding measures are understood and met
  • Acquiring NFIs when stock levels are low (e.g. bringing this up with the other coordinators and assessing needs/sourcing new stock)
  • Fleet and equipment management

  • Fluent in English
  • Experience in working with people on the move/refugees or in a similar field of working with vulnerable people
  • Minimum commitment of 6 months
  • Drivers license, ability to drive manual, and willingness to drive a van
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Good prioritisation and organisational skills
  • Excellent understanding of, and ability to maintain, appropriate boundaries with people that we serve
  • Ability to work in a team, excellent communication skills for regular meetings with the team and fellow coordinators
  • Logistical experience

  • Fluent in Greek or some knowledge of the Greek language
  • Knowledge of Farsi, Arabic or French is also useful
  • Experience of organising and leading distributions
  • Experience of leading a team of volunteers

What we can offer:

  • Free accommodation
  • The opportunity to work in a diverse team with European volunteers and members of the community
  • A unique, practical learning experience
