We are a modest group of independent volunteers from all over the world operating a small shelter for refugee families in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In this shelter, we provide accommodation, 3 meals a day, hygiene items, clothing, medical assistance, and education. We normally have between 75-90 residents at the House, with half of them being children. We are also focusing on providing daily activities for the residents of all ages to make sure they stay mentally stimulated and engaged throughout these dreary months. Our main priority is to make it a safe, warm, and comfortable space for families, single mothers, and other particularly vulnerable people.

We have a volunteer house around the corner of the place of work and we are a hard-working friendly bunch. We offer free accommodation for people that can stay for at least a month but ideally, we like seeing candidates who are willing to stay here slightly more long term, both for the continuity of the team but also for the kids who we want to provide at least minimal consistency for. 

The team is normally 6 people: 2 kitchen managers, 1 project coordinator (myself), 2 activities coordinators and a medical coordinator. We eat most meals in the resident house (you can of course choose to cook your own meals) and the working hours are 10-6 and for the kitchen are 8.30am-8pm with 3 hours of break in the middle (this can be arranged to be split in shifts between the kitchen managers). We have a lovely old lady as our landlord on the other side of the house who is always willing to offer up a nice pie or fresh garden veggies as an extra perk :)
