Contract Type: Unpaid Internship / Traineeship (Academic credit available)
Minimum Commitment: 3 months (full-time, 35 hours/week)
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 11:00–18:00
Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality, communicative English language classes to adult refugees and asylum-seekers, facilitating a key skill for integration and empowerment. The teacher will plan and deliver lessons for varying ability levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lesson Delivery: Plan and teach English classes Monday–Thursday (time according to weekly schedule), adapting to mixed-ability and multicultural classrooms.
- Curriculum Development: Develop engaging, practical lesson plans focused on everyday communication, following a learner-centred approach.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive learning environment.
- Assessment & Support: Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and offer additional support to learners who need it.
- Resource Development: Create and source appropriate teaching materials with limited resources.
- Cross-Cultural Teaching: Employ clear, visual, and interactive teaching methods suitable for a multilingual classroom.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in weekly team meetings, provide updates, and collaborate with other project leads.
- Additional support: Support IHA projects (Community centre and Warehouse) as needed
Skills & Experience:
- Essential: Native or near-native English proficiency. Previous teaching experience (any context). Creativity, patience, and exceptional intercultural communication skills. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Team player with a positive, adaptable, and proactive attitude.
- Desirable: TEFL/CELTA or similar teaching certification. Studying towards a degree in Education, Languages, or Social Sciences. Experience teaching adults or in informal education settings.
